Record methodologyHow outcomes are recorded.
This page documents what the scanner code actually does when it records a plan: the price source, the pip convention, R multiples and every outcome rule.
What is recorded
Every plan the scanner publishes is stored with its system, direction, entry, stop, target and publication time, and later with its fill time, close time, exit price, result and pips. Updates such as a stop moving to entry are stored with the plan.
Price source and checks
Fills, stops and targets are checked against the scanner's own XAU/USD price feed. On every check the scanner walks through each finished one-minute candle since the previous check, then the latest price.
- If one candle touched both the stop and the target, the stop is counted first (the worse outcome).
- If the price feed has not updated for more than five minutes, fill and settlement checks pause until it does; the candles in between are then checked in order.
Pip convention
For XAU/USD the code uses a pip size of 0.10 in price. A $1.00 move in gold is therefore 10 pips.
sell: pips = (entry − exit) ÷ 0.10
rounded to one decimal place
Example (illustrative): a buy at 3,990.00 that closes at 4,060.00 moved 70.00 in price, which is 700 pips. A stop 35.00 below the entry is 350 pips away.
R multiples
1R is the distance between the entry and the original stop, the stop the plan was published with. A later stop change never shrinks 1R.
Because the pip size appears on both sides of this calculation, R is the same whether it is computed from prices or from pips.
Outcome rules
| Outcome | When | Pips recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Target hit | Price reaches the target | Entry to target |
| Stopped out | Price reaches the original stop, or a moved stop that still cuts a loss | Entry to stop (negative) |
| Closed in profit | A trailed stop closes the plan at least 1 pip above entry | Entry to that stop |
| Breakeven | The stop had moved to entry and was touched, or a trailed stop closed within 1 pip of entry | See below |
| Missed | Target reached before the entry filled | None |
| Cancelled | Pending order removed before it filled | None |
Stop-to-entry outcomes
When a plan reaches its breakeven trigger (1R for PHANTOM and ECHO), members are told and the stop moves to the entry price. Members are offered the choice to close half of the position at that point and let the rest run.
If such a plan is later closed at its entry, the code records it as breakeven and books half of the pips reached at the trigger, reflecting that half-close option. For example, a plan that moved its stop to entry at 350 pips of profit and then returned to entry is booked as breakeven with 175 pips. These figures are before costs, and a trader who did not close half would have a result of about zero.
News-related closures
From one hour before a marked high-impact news event until 45 minutes after it, no new plans are created. When the window starts:
- pending orders are cancelled and shown as cancelled with the news reason;
- running plans in profit are closed at the market price and recorded as wins with those pips;
- running plans not in profit keep their stop. Their stop moves to entry only if the plan had already reached its normal breakeven trigger.
Missed and cancelled
A plan is missed when price reaches the target without first filling the entry. Pending plans can also be cancelled: by the news shield, or when three plans are already running and a newer plan comes from a system with a better recorded accuracy, which replaces the weakest pending plan. Active plans are never replaced. Missed and cancelled plans are not counted as wins or losses.
Costs and broker differences
All recorded outcomes are before costs: spreads, commission, swaps and slippage are not deducted. Your broker's prices can differ from the scanner's feed, so an order may fill, stop or reach target at a different time or price, or not at all.
Summaries
No summary statistics are shown while the record has no finished plans. When they are added, they will count only finished plans and will always state their date range and sample size.
The example prices on this page are illustrative and are not real plans.
